Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes, we do a full digital roof inspection before providing an estimate. We look at the condition of your shingles, flashing, and other key areas—often using photos or drone imaging for a closer view.
We also check your attic for:
- Moisture or leaks
- Rotted decking (bad wood)
- Ventilation issues
Our goal is to catch any hidden problems and give you an honest, detailed overview before any work begins.
My roof is not that old but it looks bad and is worn out, it was supposed to be a 25-30 year shingle when I bought it but it has only been on for 10-15 years
A roof’s life expectancy depends on several factors—not just the label on the shingles. While manufacturers may advertise a “25-year” or “30-year” shingle, that number is based on ideal conditions. In reality, weather, attic ventilation, and other natural factors all play a role in how long a roof actually lasts.
In Kentuckiana, most roofs last around 15 to 18 years, depending on the type and quality of the shingles installed. Proper ventilation can make a big difference, helping extend the life of the roof by preventing heat and moisture buildup.
How do I find a reliable Roofing Company?
There are both “fly-by-night” roofers and “Storm Chasers” preying on homeowners. Many Storm Chasers from out of state go door to door and advertise as though they are locally based companies. After the storm business is over, they are long gone! Still other “roofing companies” start up after a storm to make a quick dollar, then disappear.
If someone knocks on your door to ask about a roof repair, ask for and check the following:
- Ask to see their driver’s license.
- Check the license plate on their truck.
- Check with the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org.
- Look them up on the Kentucky or Indiana Secretary of State websites to see if they’re registered as a “foreign corporation” or if they’re registered at all.
- Make sure they provide current proof of liability and workers’ compensation insurance.
The best way to find a reliable roofing company is to look for one with a proven local presence, strong reviews, and a reputation for standing behind their work—not just chasing the next storm.
How much will my roof cost me?
The average roof today generally costs somewhere in the range of $6,000-$7,000. Of course, there will be some variations in pricing due to the size of the home and the square footage of the roof. It is important that you compare “apples to apples” when receiving estimates for your roof. The quality of the roofing materials and experience of the installation crew will certainly play a factor in determining the price of an installation. HKC Roofing prides itself on our experienced roofing crews, extensively trained in our company’s programs. We conduct classes weekly to make sure our crews install our roofs according to CertainTeed Contractor specifications and follow all safety guidelines. We use premium materials and offer our customers the best warranties in the business, backed up by CertainTeed, a 10 billion dollar company.
How long will my roofing install take?
Most roofing installations take one (1) to one and a half (1 1/2) days depending on the size of the roof and the time of year. If someone is taking longer than that on a normal sized roof, odds are they are understaffed and you’ll most likely continue to have problems.
Can you work with my Homeowners Insurance Company directly to get my roofing problems taken care of?
Yes, we work with insurance adjusters of all companies. We will do our best to make sure you get the roof you need and deserve.
